MUSIC AS BUSINESS

how a song should be?if such a question was asked most of us will say that,a very good song should give you ultimate satisfaction.
talking about satisfaction.i vary a little bit ,probably a large bit.
when u get satisfied over one thing,u wont go for it again.
for example take a cigarette, its a perfect combination of a perfect taste but still it leaves you unsatisfied, that's why you always go for another one.

i feel a song should strike something in your heart(BEETHOVEN),it should leave you unsatisfied.it should have the ingredients of perfectionism but it should still leave u unsatisfied.

you know whats the problem with the present day music scenario.
well,it has become "business".
if u make anything as business then the purpose goes down just because of the greed for profit.

we,at first started criticising those songs when they were very few,but when 99% of the songs started to come out like that,we started to accept them, because they sell.and the remaining 1% songs even though they are what we expected a song should be
will not be accepted.it will be considered as " weird " .

"vazkai enbathu" from kattradhu tamizh song was the latest example.this song did not feature in the movie just because it is a "weird" song.believe me it was the best song i heard after a very longtime.

illayaraja, for instance as done 950 movies till date, almost 5000 songs.i personally feel that of the 5000 songs, take out 1000 songs which were done for business motive.we still got 4000 songs.which is very huge.and we have listened only to ,say 1500 songs.the rest 2500 songs came after 1990 - till date which were considered as weird songs by the people because people got used to what they criticised before.

you want to know why rahman is globally recognised compared to illayaraja or m.s viswanathan.simply because India went for LPG after 1991.rahman entered the scenario at the right time.the lucky devil.

we listen not to what is best ,rather we listen to what sells best and what sells best is not always best.

so after globalisation, even though we boast ourselves as democratic socialistic economy, whatever it is ,we became a capitalistic economy(the rich becomes richer, the poor becomes poorer)slowly.we,the people became the by products of lifestyle obsession(fight club).in terms of music we became consumers rather than music lovers.a consumer always goes for best in the market.the best in the market is determined by business or profit it generates.even though perfect competition should exist, there will be monopoly,i.e
the profit will be determined by the very few rich, because they have the purchasing power and they buy anything which is best in the world market.the best in the world market will be determined by the corporate giants through their marketing strategies, pepsi or coke for instance.(i like bovonto, which is not available).

so people go for branded items, reebok, nike, allen solly, peter england, pepsi, mcdonalds like that.these branded items will be bought only by the fewer rich.they dont have brains but they have enough money.they go with the trends rather than what they like.because the fear that they will be left behind if they are stuck to their tastes.

people listen to metallica not because they like it but because everybody pretends to like it and everybody pretends because they fear to be left behind.

so,these fewer rich who has the purchasing capacity determines the profit.what gives you profit sells well and what sells well is considered as best.this is what happening to
music industry.

not music industry alone but in every industry.

i just felt like sharing it with you.
